Jon Marchi

Jon MarchiJon Marchi retired as Chairman and Director of Big Sky Airlines on September 30, 2007 after twenty-nine years of service. The Bank of Montana is very proud to have Jon as a Director.  Jon has committed to investing a major portion of the time he was spending at Big Sky Airlines into his directorship at the Bank of Montana.

Background
Jon spent most of his professional career with D.A. Davidson, holding several senior level executive positions before moving on in 1985 to pursue entrepreneurial interests. Since that time Jon has started and/or invested in a number of companies, including Marchi Angus Ranches, Development Corporation of Montana and the Glacier Venture Fund, Montana’s only licensed SBIC.  He was also responsible for developing the Montana Private Capital Network, an organization that brings together angel investors from across the state.  Glacier Venture Fund has provided equity financing for a number of Montana businesses and Jon serves as a board member and mentor for many of these companies.  Jon’s success record in identifying emerging high growth and high profitability companies is exceptional.

Jon serves as a Director for many companies and organizations, including LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals, Great Northern Drilling Company, Phillips Environmental Products, Montana Ambassadors, American Wagyu Association, MSU-Billings College of Business and the Frontier Fund to name a few. His previous directorships include being a Director of the Montana Community Finance Corporation, the White House Conference on Small Business, the Securities Industry Association, and many others.

In 2005, the Governor appointed Jon as Chairman of the Montana Facility Finance Authority because of his experience in tax-exempt financing.  He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Montana Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs (MADE) and judges the John Ruffatto Business Plan Competition at the University of Montana. He has also judged business plan competitions at the London School of Economics.

Jon was the recipient of the Governor’s Award as the Montana Ambassador of the Year in 2002, and in 2004 Jon received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the School of Business Administration at the University of Montana.
